Design Guidelines

We offer support removal as one of our post-processing services, but prices can vary based on the time required to remove supports. 

Standard materials like Nylon, ASA, and others are compatible with soluble supports. This support type can be dissolved away, giving you more design freedom. 

However, ULTEM can only use breakaway supports which must be manually removed. To minimize costs, avoid designs with enclosed areas where there is no room for a tool to reach.

Extrusion printers have a fixed extrusion width, in a sense the "resolution" of the printer. Walls and features thinner than this extrusion width will either print poorly, or not at all. As a general rule, features smaller than 1 mm may be problematic.    

Depending on the material, 3D printed parts can be much stronger when the layer lines are in the right orientation. This is less of a factor for some materials than others. We will attempt to orient your part in the best way possible, but if you have a specific application that needs maximum strength, feel free to contact us so we can select the best orientation for the task.
